Parker is still gaining ground

After entering the NBA Hall of Fame last August, Tony Parker was inducted Sunday into the San Antonio Spurs Hall of Fame on the sidelines of the match between the Texas franchise and the Pelicans clearly lost by Victor Wembanyama and his teammates. The quadruple champion’s jersey with Spurs was once again retired for the occasion.

Tony Parker’s jersey goes back and forth and the former French basketball player never stops adding stripes to his jacket. On August 12, in Springfield (Connecticut), the former Spurs leader was inducted into the NBA Hall of Fame, the Pantheon of American basketball. Sunday afternoon, on the sidelines of the match between San Antonio and the New Orleans Pelicans on the floor of the AT&T Center, “TP” was entitled to a new tribute from his former supporters of whom he nevertheless certainly remained one of the favorites despite the years that have passed since his departure for Charlotte (in 2018).

After entering the coveted and legendary Hall of Fame of the no less legendary North American league, the four-time champion with the Spurs (in 2003, 2005, 2007 and 2014) joined another Hall of Fame on Sunday, that of the Spurs during a ceremony certainly much less rowdy than the one he was entitled to last summer. It is almost in the greatest discretion – the (rap) piece chosen – “Ne reviens pas” by Gradur and Heuss L’Enfoiré – has changed nothing – that the one who is today the president of ASVEL and had made the special trip from France made his entry at the break of this match which once again turned into humiliation for San Antonio and Victor Wembanyama to first attend the projection on the giant screens of the speech he gave during his induction into the NBA Hall of Fame.

Parker’s jersey retired for the second time

Warmly applauded by the audience, he then said these few words, which earned him another ovation: “I get chills looking at his images. It was fun to celebrate the Hall of Fame ceremony in August, but it’s even more special to do it with you tonight (…) You are by far the best fans in the world. Thank you for your support. You all adopted me. San Antonio is my home and always will be. Thank you so much. » Highlight of the ceremony: the famous jersey bearing the number 9 was once again retired, but this time accompanied by the words “Hall of Fame”. This is the second time Parker’s tunic has climbed into the sky at the AT&T Center. This had indeed already been the case in November 2019, when the star leader bowed out.
