Eve of the sixth day of the women’s Serie B, for Pallacanestro Viagrande. Tomorrow evening, the team coached by Tania Seino will be on stage at the Retiro municipal gym in Messina, home of San Matteo Basket, for what, to all intents and purposes, will be the “sign match” of the round.
Fundamental challenge for the Etna team, fresh from two consecutive successes with growing performances. Tomorrow’s match on the Messina parquet will be a real test to verify the progress made so far. Spampinato and his teammates will find themselves opposed to the team second in the standings, which after having narrowly lost to league leaders Ragusa on the first day, has strung together an uninterrupted series of victories so far.
Taking stock of the Viagrande team is Francesca Amico, fresh back after a few weeks’ break between October and the first half of November: “Unfortunately I had to miss the first three championship matches. Psychologically it was hard not being able to go on the pitch with my teammates and having to stay on the bench to be a scout. Now, though, I’m ready. I feel like I’m close to 100% and I also demonstrated it in the last round match against Verga Basket.”
The Etna basketball player then comments on the victory over Verga in the last round and looks forward to tomorrow’s match: “Last week’s victory gave us confidence. I also needed it for personal redemption after the Alcamo match in which I played, but not at my best, having very little training on my legs. I had no feeling on the pitch. Last Sunday’s home victory helped everyone. Saint Matthew? We have been preparing for this race for two weeks. It will be tough, like every year against them. They are a very physical team, they also added young girls to the roster who run. It will be a tough match from a physical point of view, as we will also have a few fewer rotations. But we still want to bring it home, also for a reason for group pride.”
