For the first time, the Navarrese venue has hosted the Absolute Spanish Judo Championship. The athletes, divided by weight, have faced each other on the 40×40 meters of each of the three tatami mats installed under the watchful eye of the judges and the thousand of fans who, on average and although there have been rotations throughout the morning and afternoon sessions, have followed the competition from the stands, making themselves noticed based on the decisions made and cheering on their favorites.
After the morning qualifiers, starting at 3:00 p.m., the fights for the bronze medals were held and, later, the culmination was the final duels and the awards ceremony.
In them, three Navarrese protagonists. The Pamplona native Santiago Diaz Lopez, in one of the last fights of the day, returned to the national podium at 38 years old in the over 100 kilo category. He soon gave up the gold by strangulation against the Valencian Davit Kevlishvili but the second step on the podium left him “very happy”, also being grateful for “the opportunity of being able to compete in this championship in front of our family, friends, gym mates and many young practitioners of this sport that have come to see us.

Surely, little by little, all that work and energy that is being allocated to organizing courses, children’s festivals, championships… is paying off,” he acknowledged.
