Olympic Athletes Head to Amiens for Pre-Paris Games Training

The judokas of the Uzbek Olympic delegation will be in Amiens from July 14 to 26 to train before the start of the Paris Olympic Games. They join other delegations such as that of swimming or para-athletics, coming from Japan.

The city of Amiens attracts Olympic athletes for their training! The judokas from the Uzbek delegation will travel from July 14 to 26 to train ahead of the Paris Olympics. There will be 31, including staff.

They are not the only ones to be attracted by the Venice of the North. Four Japanese Olympic delegations will also be present. These are the swimming, para-swimming and para-athletics teams.

“For the able-bodied Japanese nations, therefore the swimmers and table tennis players, they will come before the Games in July“, explains Bruno Guévenoux, project manager “Amiens gets into the game”. As for the para-swimmers and para-athletes, they will train in August before the Paralympic Games.

Bruno Guévenoux affirms that the City is satisfied and proud to welcome Uzbek judokas, but also emphasizes that“a delegation like that represented by Japan for swimming, table tennis, it is a big world nation, for para-athletes too.”

The two nations “have chosen our equipment which meets international standards. They chose Amiens because we are not far from Paris, it is an environmental city with a good quality of life, motorway connections, we are not far from the Olympic village, the Stade de France, and we have good medical equipment”explains the project manager.

In addition, the arrival of these teams provides notoriety and “tourist and economic impact. They stay in Amiens so it’s positive in terms of hotels”.

In total, in the department, there are ten Games preparation centers (CPJ). One is in Abbeville and the other nine are located in Amiens. “We applied to have several of our equipment certified and all that we proposed was certified”.

There were strict specifications to respect, “It was validated by the Games Organizing Committee, it was done in advance, around three years ago”.

And when we ask Bruno Guévenoux if other Olympic delegations plan to come and train in Amiens, he answers, without coming forward: “it’s possible“.
