OL Gains Financial Flexibility for €50 Million Winter Transfer Window Investment

Still last in Ligue 1, with a glaring lack of talent in several lines, OL will be able to strengthen this winter, during the winter transfer window. This is therefore the good news of the week, while waiting to know the team’s result this Wednesday in Marseille: the DNCG largely relaxed this Tuesday the constraints that it had imposed on the Lyon club, on July 4, in governing its payroll and transfer allowances.

OL will invest €50 million this winter during the transfer window

The new budget presented last Tuesday by John Textor convinced the financial policeman to relax the grip, by virtue of several elements: the €94 million collected by summer sales, the €53 million promised by the sale of the franchise from the Reign to the Seattle Sounders, as well as the advantageous refinancing of the debt, for a total of €385 million.

Now in a more favorable context, OL will be able to invest around €50 million, as mentioned last week in these columns, during the next transfer window, from January 1, 2024. This is what the new budget presented a week ago, and the DNCG accepted it. However, it will be necessary to stay within the framework of this new budget for OL, which remains under the control of the body and supervised at least until the end of the season, and the traditional annual hearing.

The club obviously welcomed the decision and reacted in a press release: “OL regains its budgetary flexibility through the DNCG management on a new, revised upwards budget. Olympique Lyonnais takes note of the DNCG’s decision and thanks it for having heard its arguments which allow it to regain its budgetary flexibility.

By validating the new upwardly revised budget presented to it by Olympique Lyonnais and simply asking it to respect it, the DNCG allows the club to present itself in a favorable situation before the winter transfer window so as to be able to consolidate its team by acquiring new players.”
