Mercato: After PSG, Neymar’s dream falls through

Between Neymar and PSG, the story will have lasted 6 seasons. Arriving in 2017 from FC Barcelona, the Brazilian packed his bags during the last summer transfer window. No longer in the odor of sanctity in Paris, the attacking midfielder was pushed towards the exit and it was finally in Saudi Arabia, at Al-Hilal, that Neymar found a base. A transfer which at the same time dashed the dream of the now ex-PSG player: to return to FC Barcelona.
Purchased for €222M by the PSG in 2017, Neymar left at the time Lionel Messi and the FC Barcelona. While the Brazilian wanted to stand on his own two feet and emerge from the Argentinian’s shadow, he quickly regretted this decision. Indeed, just a few months after his arrival in Paris, Neymar was sick of Catalonia. Thus, the one who now belongs to Al-Hilal has been pushing for a long time to try to return to Barça. At each transfer window, this soap opera came back on the table and if the PSG and the Blaugrana negotiated several times, an agreement could never be found. The return of Neymar au FC Barcelona has therefore always ended in failure and this was again the case during the last summer transfer window.
Neymar at FC Barcelona? Another failure
Au PSGwe no longer wanted Neymar. Already in the summer of 2022, the capital club tried to get rid of the Brazilian, but it did not work. This time a solution was found with a transfer to Al-Hilal, for €90M. For his part, Neymar always had in mind the idea of returning to FC Barcelona. An operation which was also studied by the Blaugrana, who quickly dropped the matter given the impossibility of carrying it out for economic reasons.

There were conversations with his representative. But the truth is that it never presented itself in any real way. We had Financial Fair Play which conditioned a lot, but it was never concrete for Neymar. We knew the figures, Neymar had a very high salary, he had offers from Saudi clubs. It was very difficult to recover Neymar in this scenario. He’s a fantastic player. Obviously he would fit in at Barcelona, but there was never a real possibility, beyond his desire to return to Barcelona.”
