Rasta Vechta is shaking up the Easycredit Basketball Bundesliga. The newcomer is currently in eighth place – fighting for the playoffs instead of staying in the league.

One reason for the soaring is royal transfer Wes Iwundu (28). He has a lot of NBA experience and has played a total of 236 games in the best league in the world – including playing for Orlando, Dallas and Atlanta. In Vechta, Iwundu averages over ten points per game.
NBA star surprised the Vechta boss!
In the “BIG Postgame” podcast, managing director Stefan Niemeyer (63) reveals what surprised him enormously about the American. “The way he enjoys every positive action with the team is something I would never have expected given his NBA experience. When I heard who was coming to us, I thought to myself, hopefully he also has the motivation to play here,” says the Vechta boss and makes it clear: “I’m really happy about the attitude this man has on the day lays.”
Even though the early days were a big change for Iwundu. Vechta is his first stop in Europe. He needed time to get used to it. He explains: “The first two weeks of training were very stressful for me and I noticed that I was getting tired more quickly than normal. However, things got much better after that and I found a better rhythm in my training schedule and exploring the city.”

How did Vechta even manage to lure Iwundu to the small town? Niemeyer: “Our sports director is doing a great job. Wes wanted to go to Europe and our concept suited him. That’s how he came to Vechta.”
Iwundu has big plans for his new club. In October he told SPORT BILD: “Our performance was a wake-up call for the entire league. I know that maybe before the season nobody really knew how good we were. We can compete with anyone. I definitely see us making it to the play-offs and having even more success there.”
