NBA Imposes Fines for Flopping: Jokic and Moody Penalized

For the first time this season, the NBA disciplinary committee has just imposed two fines for “flopping”. The first two culprits are Nikola Jokic et Moses Moodyand they each received a $2,000 fine.

For Jokic, it was an exaggerated fall after contact with Domantas Sabonis. Even if the referees will award two free throws to the Serb, it will, fortunately, have no consequence for the final result since the Kings will win thanks to De’Aaron Fox and Malik Monk.

One match suspension for the 6th offense

For Moody, it’s also after a shot, with a nice artistic figure, against the Clippers and a defense from Terance Mann. The referees did not fall for it, and the action will continue with an offensive rebound from the Warriors. Except that the NBA therefore decided to sanction him for this unnecessary jump, likely to deceive the referees.

Since this year, referees have been able to whistle for “flopping” during a match, and if a player is caught exaggerating or simulating contact, he will now be penalized with a free throw penalty.

Furthermore, remember that there is a scale for “flopping”, with gradual fines which can go up to $30,000. At the 6th infraction, the player is sanctioned with a one-match suspension. Which has never happened in the history of the NBA.
