5.6 million TV viewers watched BVB’s cup exit in Stuttgart (0-2) on ARD on Wednesday.
They also saw that national coach Julian Nagelsmann (36) was among the 54,200 spectators who was doing his job during the national team crisis: watching players. Surprisingly at his side in the stands: girlfriend Lena (31)! Such joint appearances were previously unheard of by national coaches.

However, the DFB said that it was nothing new for a national coach to watch a game in the stands next to his partner, for example Flick with his wife Silke at a Leverkusen Europa League game in Rome.
Jürgen Klinsmann (59, 2004 to 2006) and Jogi Löw (63, 2006 to 2021) only appeared in the stands with their wives after their time as national coach had ended. They sometimes had their partners with them in the stadium, but they didn’t sit next to them.
Sports director Rudi Völler (63), who was team boss himself from 2000 to 2004, told BILD: “If that’s really what is shaking the football world, then it doesn’t look so bad for us.”

So… As an adult, you still ask yourself: What could possibly be problematic about it? I also enjoyed taking my wife with me on Champions League trips. Did I put her next to me in the commentary seat? Rather less. That’s something you think about. I admit: At the back of my mind I thought: Would you have done it as a Nagelsmann? The Swiss says: What a shame! Rather not!”
Nagelsmann has won one of four games as national coach (3:1 at the USA), most recently against Turkey (2:3) and lost in Austria (0:2).
