Municipal Board of Disabilities Celebrates International Day with Family Breakfast and Commitment to Inclusion

Within the framework of the International Day of People with Functional Diversity, December 3, the Municipal Board of People with Disabilities of the La Rinconada City Council once again celebrated a family breakfast with family members and users of the foundation, in a day of coexistence and leisure, in which the mayor, Javier Fernández, the delegate of Social Welfare, Mercedes Bueno, the First Deputy Mayor, Raquel Vega, the person in charge of Sports, Francisco José Rodríguez, the mayor of Equality, Noelia Ramírez and the delegate of Business Development Francisco Manuel Díez.

The mayor first wanted to congratulate caregivers, therapists, as well as users “for the work you have been doing in this center.” In addition, he ratified the commitment “of the La Rinconada City Council to the present and the future. We must commit and continue fighting for a fair society with equal opportunities for all. Attention to different abilities is one of the hallmarks of La Rinconada and our investment commitment will continue. In fact, the new budget for 2024 of our Municipal Foundation for People with Disabilities will manage more than 2 million euros.”

The Social Welfare delegate also wanted to make clear the commitment of the Rincon City Council with the Foundation: “Today is their day, our people with functional diversity for whom we work every day to maintain and achieve the necessary rights and well-being. for your daily development. La Rinconada is filled with pride when talking about the people who make up our four centers for people with functional diversity, our vitamin people, those who recharge our batteries with the love they give us, and we have new very motivating projects underway for them and They will undoubtedly welcome you with a big smile,” said Bueno.

Among the multiple activities they carry out, in addition to the workshops taught at the center, users have enjoyed the vacation program at Playa Canela where they participated in multiple excursions and activities.

Likewise, the Andalusian Badminton Federation organized ‘Bádminton without barriers’, an activity where the Sports Board and the students of the Higher Degree Training Cycle of Higher Technician in Teaching and Socio-Sports Animation of the IES Carmen Laffon have collaborated.

On the other hand, some users have participated in an inclusive race organized by the Samu Foundation, with a route of 1.5 kilometers and enjoyed recreational activities and workshops. Another action was a concert by the NGO ‘It’s not just music’ at the Board of Trustees facilities.

They will also have a special Christmas lunch given by the Guardagujas restaurant company and, on December 11, the students of the Miguel Hernández Garrido Elementary Conservatory of Music will offer a Christmas carol concert at the Board of Trustees’ offices.

Since the entry into operation, in 2011, of the new Occupational Center, La Rinconada has an offer
of around 90 places arranged with the Government of Andalusia, including those that belong to the Day Stay Unit, the occupational center, the Adult Residence and the Residence for the Seriously Affected. The latter do not close their doors and remain in operation 24 hours a day.

In addition, there is a complete program of personal and social adjustment programs, day stay for dependent people, leisure and free time, body expression and physical sports activities.

Work is also being done so that users can have job opportunities, all of which has turned La Rinconada into a benchmark for the region and the province.
