Jakarta – The puzzle of Hugo Lloris’ future is now answered. The senior goalkeeper from France has officially joined Major League Soccer (MLS) to play for Los Angeles FC.
Lloris himself has been marginalized at Tottenham Hotspur. His position was replaced by Guglielmo Vicario.
In fact, as reported by detikSportLloris was not registered in the Spurs squad this season to play in the Premier League.
The 37 year old goalkeeper’s last appearance was when Spurs were slaughtered by Newcastle United 6-1 last April. Lloris even conceded 5 goals in 21 minutes. He was replaced in the second half.
Lloris was actually going to leave in the transfer market last summer. However, no offers were received.
Until finally, Los Angeles FC came to propose. In a tit for tat, Lloris also accepted the MLS club’s proposal. Until finally the team announced Lloris’ move.
“Hugo Lloris is now in the Black and Gold uniform. LAFC recruited Hugo Lloris permanently from Tottenham Hotspur for the 2024 season with an option to extend in 2025 and 2026,” read LAFC’s official statement, Sunday (31/12/2023) early morning WIB.
Lloris also ended his work with Spurs. Since arriving in 2012, Lloris has made 444 appearances and recorded 151 clean sheets. Since 2015, Lloris has also been appointed captain.
“It has been an incredible honor to be one of you and one of your captains for many years and this is the end of the story, but you will always be in my heart. Spurs will always be a special place for me and my family,” said Lloris. quoted on the club’s official website.
It is hoped that Lloris’ presence can bring LAFC back to winning the title next season. Because, in the 2023 season that has just ended, they lost in the MLS Cup final to Columbus Crew and lost to Leon in the CONCACAF Champions League final.
