Manchester City cope without top scorer Haaland and secure vital victory in Premier League

Defending champions Manchester City will have to do without their top scorer Erling Haaland in the English Premier League for the time being.

The Norwegian felt a “stress reaction in his foot” after the recent 0-1 loss at Aston Villa, reported City team manager Pep Guardiola before the start of the league game at Luton Town. Even without the Norwegian, the Skyblues’ little crisis ended with a narrow 2:1 (0:1).

Previously, Manchester had drawn three times and suffered one defeat, losing a lot of ground.

City fell behind in the league for the third time in a row for the first time since 2019 due to Elijah Adebayo (45th + 2). But Bernardo Silva (62nd) and Jack Grealish (65th) secured the important victory with a double strike.

City is still right in the middle of the championship race, is in fourth place and with 33 points is only four points behind leaders Liverpool.

Now the only question that remains is when Haaland will be back.

Guardiola said he didn’t know how long Haaland would be out: “We’re looking day by day, week by week. We’ll wait and see what happens.”

Haaland has been “so important to us since he’s been there,” said the coach: “But things like that can happen during the season. Injuries, suspensions, problems – we have to find solutions.”

World champion Julian Alvarez was in the starting line-up for the Norwegian against Luton.
