Luis Suárez wins Ballon d’Or in Brazil

Luis Suárez put himself in the pockets of Gremio fans in his only season in Brazil, helping and being an important part of the team.

This Thursday it was announced that the Uruguayan won the Ballon d’Or as the best player of the season in the Brazilian league.

The 37-year-old footballer scored 17 goals with Gremio, being runner-up in the Brazilian league. The season ended this Wednesday with the crowning of Palmeiras as champion.

Suárez scored two goals in the last match of the season, the 3-2 victory against Fluminense at the Maracaná in Rio de Janeiro.

When asked about his future, Suárez did not respond, but said that he would remember not only Gremio fans, but also those of other clubs who respected him as a rival.

At the same time, he assured: “I am almost 37 years old, this is the year in which I played the most during my career. It was also a year in which I felt furthest from my family. This award belongs to them,” Suárez said through tears after receiving the trophy from Diego Lugano, his former teammate on the Uruguayan team.
