Ligue 1: Nantes ends Nice’s invincibility for Gourvennec’s first (1-0)

That’s it, the OGC Nice series are over. This Saturday, during the 14th day of Ligue 1, Francesco Farioli’s men lost to Nantes (1-0), suffering their first setback in the league this season (8 wins, 5 draws, 1 defeat). It all started with a goal from Florent Mollet (1-0, 24th), conveniently placed to push the ball into the back of the net. Le Gym had not been behind for 1307 minutes, i.e. since the 67th minute of Montpellier-Nice, on May 27 – according to Opta -.

As for the Canaries, the evening also had a tragic aspect. Before the meeting, a member of the Loire Brigade, one of the ultra groups, had in fact been stabbed by a VTC driver, according to The team. The victim’s life is in jeopardy. A drama which caused silence from the stand during part of the meeting.

It is in this context that Jocelyn Gourvennec must have considered his debut on the Beaujoire bench. If the content was not exciting, Nantes can say thank you to Alban Lafont. The former Fiorentina goalkeeper produced several decisive saves in front of Dante (9th), Thuram (10th, 63rd), Guessand (43rd) and Moffi (44th, 63rd). Insurmountable, he knew how to galvanize his people to achieve a complicated success. Nice remains second in the ranking while Nantes moves back into the first part of the table, to eighth place.
