Latvia’s National Women’s Football Team Secures Playoff Spot In The B League

Less than three minutes before the end of regular time, Anna Kristīne Gornela earned a yellow card in the ranks of the Latvian national team.

In the first subgroup of the C League, Malta took the first place with 16 points and secured a place in the B League, while Latvia finished second with ten points, which was enough to enter the playoffs and continue the fight for entry into the B League. Andorra collected four points, while Moldova got three points.

On Friday, the Latvians beat Andorra 4-0 at home, Olga Ševtsova scoring three goals, while Moldova drew 0-0 at home with Malta in the second game of the group.

The teams will play a two-round tournament until December, after which the winner of the group will get the right to play in the B League in the qualifying stage of the European Championship, while the three best runners-up will fight for such an opportunity in the “play-off” games.
