The league lead at Christmas didn’t work out, but Jürgen Klopp was by no means dissatisfied after the next draw at Anfield. “If you weren’t sure where we belong in the table, the result shows that we belong up there. Now we have to move on from here,” said Klopp after the 1-1 draw in the top game of the English Premier League against league leaders Arsenal on Saturday.
With 39 points, the Reds are in second place, directly behind the London club (40). The table constellation could have been even better. As with the 0-0 draw against Manchester United a week ago, Klopp’s team missed good opportunities. Trent Alexander-Arnold missed a possible victory with his shot against the crossbar in the second half.
Kostas Tsimikas is out for a long time
“You have to draw confidence from these results and performances against a top team. For example, we didn’t play badly against Man City, but it wasn’t as good as today,” added Klopp, referring to the top game against the champions at the end of November (1:1).
Shortly before the end of the first half of the season, a number of teams can still hope for the title. Aston Villa (39), Tottenham Hotspur (36) and world club champions Manchester City (34), who still have a catch-up game, are all within striking distance.

Liverpool’s defensive player Kostas Tsimikas will be missing from the title race for the time being. The Greek was pushed down the sideline by Bukayo Saka and even knocked his coach Klopp off his feet as he fell. Tsimikas had to leave the field with a shoulder injury. Klopp spoke of a long downtime: “The collarbone is definitely broken.”
