Junior de Barranquilla Secures Last Place in 2024 Copa Libertadores After Winning Colombian League

Junior de Barranquilla won the last place in the 2024 Copa Libertadores, after becoming champion of Colombian soccer in the 2023-II League, by beating Medellín in the grand final this Wednesday at the Atansio Girardot stadium.

Millonarios, as champion of the League of the first semester, had secured a place in the group stage of the Copa Libertadores. Junior, as recent champion, took the other place in the group stage.

Nacional, for its part, champion of the Colombia Cup, will be in the preliminary phase of the contest alongside Águilas Doradas, an Antioquian team that advances to the tournament for the first time, thanks to the Reclassification, where it was the best club with 93 units.

The four places for the Copa Sudamericana are for the four best teams in the Reclassification that did not achieve a place in the Copa Libertadores. Medellín, runner-up and fourth in said table with 88 points, América, fifth with 82 points, Tolima, seventh with 73 and Alianza Petrolera, eighth with 68, will be in this competition.

Next Tuesday, December 19, the draw for the preliminary phases of the Libertadores will take place; while the first phase of the Sudamericana will be drawn that same time, where the four Colombian teams will be facing each other.
