Jannik Sinner ended 2023 furiously

Jannik Sinner didn’t have much time to breathe after his successful end to the season: following the Davis Cup triumph with Italy, the 22-year-old only allowed himself a week’s vacation before starting training again this week. Since Tuesday, Sinner has been preparing for the new season in Alicante with compatriot Luca Nardi.

“There’s not much time left to rest, but ultimately training is the part I love the most,” Sinner said on Monday at a ceremony in Milan. At this, the South Tyrolean was named best player of the year by the local association .

Although Sinner made his breakthrough into the absolute best in the world last season, his record at the four Grand Slam tournaments could be improved. After his round of 16 exit at the Australian Open, the 22-year-old failed in round two in Paris, and then reached the first major semi-final of his career at Wimbledon. At the end of the Grand Slam season, New York was back in the round of 16.

In preparation for the Australian Open 2024, Sinner is choosing a very unusual path. The fourth in the world rankings will not play an official tournament before the event in Melbourne, but will only play exhibition matches. The Australian Open starts on January 14th.
