Jakub Lauko’s Triumph and Struggle in Overseas NHL

Czech hockey forward Jakub Lauko struggled in the overseas NHL. He cut a fight in Boston’s game against Minnesota and held his own in a clash with Connor Dewar. It was a big win for him after an eye injury, although he couldn’t celebrate the triumph with the Bruins after a 3-4 defeat.

It was the first time I got the green light for a potential battle. I could finally play my game,” said Lauko, who suffered a serious eye injury at the end of October, according to boston.com. On the ice, it was clear that he was definitely fit.

About halfway through the first period, he got into a fight with 24-year-old Wild forward Connor Dewar, landing some well-aimed punches.

The Wild attacker first kept up with Lauk in the brawl, then his helmet fell off, and finally Cech got him to the ground, causing the stands to roar.

There was a lot of emotion at that moment. It was simmering inside me for two months, so I wanted to get it out. We scored straight away so I think it was a job well done,” said the twenty-three-year-old native of Prague.

Bruins coach Jim Montgomery also praised this. “I think it was his best game,” he said of Lauk. “He made at least three hits there, from the fourth line it was a great game, which was much needed for us,” he added.

But in the end, Boston was not happy about the win. Despite two goals from David Pastrňák and two assists from Pavel Zacha, he lost to Minnesota 3:4 in overtime.
