Hokuriku Gakuin Advances Through First Round of Winter Cup 2023

On December 24th, the second day of the “SoftBank Winter Cup 2023 Reiwa 5th 76th National High School Basketball Championship” was held, and the boys’ first round match was held at the Tokyo Gymnasium, where they faced Hokuriku Gakuin High School (Ishikawa Prefecture). Kansai University Hokuyo High School (Osaka Prefecture) competed.

In the first half, the game was played with neither player taking an inch. Hokuriku Gakuin, led by Renta Ono, was increasing their scores, while Kansai Daihokuyo’s Takuma Amemori and Yuto Ohno continued to score, leading Hokuriku Gakuin to halftime at 43-41.

In the second half, Hokuriku Gakuin quickly took control of the match. Ono’s consecutive 3 points quickly expanded the lead to 15 points, and despite Kansai Daihokuyo’s counterattack, they maintained a double-digit lead at 64-54 going into the final quarter. In the end, they were not able to catch up until the end, and Hokuriku Gakuin made it through the first round with a final score of 84-71. In the second round, which will be held on the 25th, they will face Fukuoka Daiichi High School (Fukuoka Prefecture).

For Hokuriku Gakuin, Ono scored 25 points and Arata Seto scored 21 points. Although Ohno and Sho Yoneda both scored 17 points, Kansai Daihokuyo lost the first game.
