A case of feminicide that shakes the world of cycling and that of sport in general. Rohan Dennistwo-time time trial world champion in 2018 and 2019, was arrested on charges of killing his wife, Melissa Hoskins, also a former cyclist. The events occurred in Australia on the evening of December 30th: according to initial reconstructions, Hoskins was at the wheel of a car when she was hit by a large pickup of which her husband was driving. Emergency taken to hospital, the thirty-one year old died due to the serious injuries suffered after the impact.

The accident occurred a few kilometers from Adelaide, not far from the house where the couple lived with their two children.

Currently, Rohan Dennis is under arrest on suspicion of murder.

The Australian announced his retirement from the competitive scene last February, publicly declaring that 2023 would be his last season as a professional. Winner of two rainbow time trial jerseys, two stages at the Vuelta a Espana and a stage at the Tour de France, where he wore the yellow jersey for a day in 2015, Dennis thanked his wife in the post on social media announcing his retirement: «Thank you Melissa for supporting me throughout my professional career, all while raising two of the best children I could have ever asked for. Cycling, you have given me a lot and I will forever be grateful to you.”

The last major stage race in which Dennis took part was the Giro d’Italia, where he was able to race alongside his captain, the winner of the pink jersey Primoz Roglic. Currently, Dennis is in prison and will have to wait until March for the start of the trial which will see him implicated as the sole defendant for the murder of his wife.
