Leipzig and Eisennach deliver a thrilling handball duel. But in the crucial phase, six seconds of playing time suddenly disappear from the clock. The people of Leipzig are therefore objecting to the rating.

SC DHfK Leipzig has lodged a protest against the scoring of the game at ThSV Eisenach. Karsten Günther, manager of the Bundesliga club, confirmed this on Monday. “A handball game lasts 60 minutes. Net playing time. The game on Friday only lasted 59:54 minutes. “Six seconds were missing,” said Günther. The sports court of the Handball Bundesliga must now decide on this. If Leipzig gets it right, a replay is possible.

Eisenach defeated SC DHfK 25:24 on Friday evening. When 58:49 minutes had elapsed, Leipzig took a time-out, but when the game continued the clock was apparently at 58:55 minutes. A clear advantage for the hosts who are in the lead. The game continues, although the Leipzig team complains to the judges. Even the timekeeper Burkhard Führer, officially appointed by the HBL, does not react to the strange time jump.

Leipzig’s Lucas Krzikalla shortened the score to 24:25. Eisenach spoiled the last attack and Leipzig regained possession of the ball two seconds before the end of the game. Krzikalla gets the ball again, but the final siren prevents Leipzig from scoring a goal and thus also winning a point. Krzikalla scores against an unresponsive Eisenach goalkeeper Dominik Plaue. Too late! Eisenach is celebrating after nine bankruptcies in a row.

“Anyone who followed the outcome of the game saw that with one or two seconds more on the clock, we would have had a realistic chance of coming out with a draw,” said Günther. The manager also informed the Thuringians of this step and emphasized that it was not a personal matter. “I have to put myself in front of our club and of course it’s also about the integrity of the competition.” Eisenach is not alone in the relegation battle, where every point can be decisive in the end.
