From China to France: The Remarkable Journey of Xuefei to the Olympics

At a very young age, her dearest wish was to compete in the Olympics, but she knew that representing China or another Asian country, it would be complicated. That’s why she came to Europe and one thing led to another, to France and… To Rostrenen. She found a kindred spirit in Arthur Sibéril, a player at the local club, and she stayed there. And it’s been 10 years already! It was in 2019 that she acquired French nationality. French champion in 2020 in Mulhouse, she has continued to occupy the high level since then and she was able to realize her dream by participating in the Tokyo Olympic Games. Unfortunately, a foot injury prevented her from performing.

With the bad club Rostrenen, she climbed all the ranks from N3 to Top 12 and led her teammates to excellence.

“We benefited from his talent and his rigor. Her project has helped the club’s players develop at all levels,” captain Martin Boiveau said of her.

To date, for Paris 2024, she remains waiting. It’s true that between now and May, a lot can still happen, especially since Xuefei started the season with other physical problems. But she is as confident as her president Jacques Sibéril when he does the accounts. “I think,” he said, “that she’s on to something. She has recently scored a lot of points in international tournaments, in El Salvador and more recently in Aire sur la Lys, in qualifying for the European Championships. Selected for the French team, she won all her matches. France beat Slovenia, Belgium and Switzerland 5/0 in each meeting. »
