Former NBA G League player arrested for murder of missing woman in Las Vegas

Former NBA G League player confessed to kidnapping, killing missing woman in Las Vegas, police say

Comanche, 27, and Sakari Harnden, 19, were arrested last week and accused of kidnapping Harnden’s friend, Marayna Rodgers, but police began pursuing murder charges against Comanche and Harnden after Rodgers’ remains have been discovered, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said in a news release Sunday.

A police arrest warrant says Comanche and Harnden are charged with murder in Rodgers’ death. The Kings, affiliated with the Sacramento Kings, have announced Friday that Comanche had been released from the team.

In the warrant, which was filed in Clark County District Court, police say the two men lured the victim to a secluded location under the guise of a prostitution contract. They then strangled Rodgers in Harnden’s vehicle before dumping his body in a ditch and covering it with rocks, according to the court filing reviewed by CNN.

After his confession, Comanche showed detectives where Rodgers’ body was buried, police said.

CNN has reached out to attorneys for Comanche and Harnden for comment on these allegations.

“Sakari and Chance began hatching a plan to lure Marayna away from her friends so they could kill her,” police said in the arrest warrant. “Chance and Sakari were unable to find anyone to help them commit the murder, so they decided to commit it themselves.

Police say Rodgers was reported missing Dec. 7, two days after she was last seen with friends and arranged to meet Harnden and Comanche.

After the arrests, investigators obtained information that led them to find Rodgers’ remains in a desert area in Henderson, about 20 miles southeast of Las Vegas, according to police.

According to the warrant, Comanche told his ex-girlfriend in a text message, “I can break her neck or just strangle this bitch.” In another message, he wrote: “If you find a nice thick rope or strong rope, I can do it from the backseat. Like killers do in the movies.”

Comanche was arrested by the FBI Friday in Sacramento, Calif., during a Stockton Kings practice and waived extradition during a Sacramento court appearance Tuesday. Las Vegas authorities have 30 days to bring him back to Nevada to answer the charges against him.

Harnden appeared in court Wednesday and is scheduled to return for an arraignment in February. She appeared in court Sunday, where her bond was set at $500,000, according to court records.

CNN’s Melissa Alonso and Jessica Flynn contributed to this report.
