Another historic day for the world of archery, capable of earning the most prestigious stage on the occasion of the classic event of the ceremony of awarding the Golden Collars of sporting meritwhich celebrates champions who have established themselves internationally, as well as managers who have distinguished themselves in their careers at the service of sport.
The protagonists of FITARCO who obtained the highest recognition from Italian sport were the (Piedmontese) Federal President Mario Scarzella and the compound open para-archery world champion Matteo Bonacina (Archers of the Alps).

The well-deserved and usual tricolor celebration took place in Rome, in the monumental gym of Palazzo H, inside the University of the Foro Italico where, after the withdrawals for health reasons of the Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and the Minister for the Sport and Youth Andrea Abodi, during a live TV broadcast on Rai Due, presented the coveted honor to the President of CONI Giovanni Malagòthe President of the Italian Paralympic Committee Luca Pancallithe Secretary General of CONI, Carlo Mornati and the President of the CONI Merit Commission, Alessandra Sensini.

These are the words of the President Mario Scarzella at the end of the ceremony: «For me it is an important and exciting day. The golden collar is an emblem and the highest honor of Italian sport and having received it in that assembly, with so many athletes who have achieved excellent results in the Olympic and Paralympic fields, is truly a great satisfaction. I must thank all the CONI presidents with whom I have collaborated in these years of work at the service of sport, starting from Gianni Petrucci, moving on to Giovanni Malagò, without forgetting the president of the CIP Luca Pancalli, with whom I share 12 years of commitment in the council of the Paralympic Committee. I don’t know if this award was given to me for what I have done at a national level or for what I have achieved as an international manager: but it is certainly an honor that I want to share with all the managers, technicians and athletes who have supported me in recent years in federal world. Without them I wouldn’t have received it. It was even more rewarding and exciting to be able to receive the golden collar together with an archer like Matteo Bonacina: he, like all the other Italians, have won so much in the Olympic, Paralympic, World and European competitions. I conclude by thanking again and sharing this emotion with all those who have contributed to making FITARCO ever greater in the sporting world».

Also for Matteo Bonacinaawarded the Golden Collar after winning the compound para-archery world title at the World Championships in Pilsen (Cze) last summer, it was exciting to participate in the ceremony: «I had a fantastic year, which ended in the best possible way with this award ceremony. I’m really proud of what I’ve done, but I’m also proud of what the whole team and staff have achieved. Let’s hope that next year, the year of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, can be even better».
