Is Bastian Schweinsteiger about to return to FC Bayern Munich? At least that’s what Bayern President Herbert Hainer wants – and makes a statement that makes you sit up and take notice.

Munich – He knows how to win the big titles: World Cup, Champions League, German Championship and DFB Cup, Bastian Schweinsteiger has won them all. He recorded his greatest successes as a professional footballer, particularly with Bayern – the former Munich world-class player has fully internalized Mia san Mia.

After his time with Chicago Fire in the US Major League, the midfielder announced the end of his career. Before moving to the States, he played for Manchester United for two years, but the 39-year-old spent the majority of his career at FC Bayern. And that’s exactly where Bayern President Herbert Hainer (69) wants to involve him again.

Bastian Schweinsteiger should take on a role at FC Bayern again

In an episode of Bild-Podcasts Location of the league Christian Falk, head of football at the, spoke on December 3rd Bild, with Hainer about a possible contract extension for Thomas Müller at FC Bayern. Müller’s contract with the German record champions expires in the summer; both sides recently signaled their willingness to continue working together.

Hainer said that the decision-makers at FCB “are in constant discussions with our players and also with the management of the individual players.” Hainer is “very confident” that the collaboration with Müller will work even after his career as an active professional with Bayern ends becomes.

And mentions almost casually that he would like “icons like Thomas Müller or Bastian Schweinsteiger to work at FC Bayern again in the future.”

Schweinsteiger: “You should never say never”

Hainer did not address what role Schweinsteiger could take on at Bayern. Nor does it matter whether discussions have already been held with the 39-year-old. However, with regard to working at FCB, he noted that “it can happen relatively quickly.”

Schweinsteiger had in an episode of the podcast Bayern Insider indicated in January 2022 that he could imagine returning to Bayern. In the interview he said: “A little later maybe. It’s not appealing to me at the moment. […] Of course I follow football, I follow Munich very closely. And you should never say never.”

Schweinsteiger at FC Bayern: 500 competitive games in 13 years

During his time at FC Bayern Munich from 2002 to 2015, Schweinsteiger played 500 competitive games. The midfielder scored 68 goals and provided 100 assists. He won the treble with Bayern in 2013, celebrated seven championships and six DFB Cup victories.

Schweinsteiger is currently a football expert on ARD. In December he met with Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel in a Munich bar, which led to speculation about the reasons. However, Tuchel made it clear that the meeting was hardly about FC Bayern. (mag)
