False Alarm: MLB Free Agent Shohei Ohtani Not Signing with Toronto After All

Yesterday afternoon, we brought you the information that coveted MLB free agent Shohei Ohtani was potentially on his way to Toronto.

Initially reported by the highly regarded Jon Morosi of MLBNetwork via his Twitter feed, this information nevertheless mentioned that the Japanese had not confirmed having signed with a team.

Then, a few hours later, USA Today columnist Bob Nightengale denied the rumor that Ohtani was on his way to Toronto to make his signing official.

It is therefore in complete confusion that many media have had to reconsider their comments concerning this monster agreement between the super-star and the Toronto team.

However, yesterday, late in the evening, Jon Morosi was forced to apologize for the false rumor spread across the planet. In a tweet directly addressing major baseball fans, the latter expressed his mea-culpa:

“Today I posted a tweet containing inaccurate information that Shohei Ohtani was heading to Toronto. I regret this mistake and apologize to baseball fans everywhere. I am deeply sorry for letting you down .”

An error that will follow the MLB Network journalist for a long time…
