Eva Durán Pavón, a 15-year-old girl, is an emerging force in the world of karate. Originally from El Castillo De las Guardas in Seville, Eva moved to Herrera del Duque 10 years ago due to her father’s job change. Currently, she is studying 4th year of ESO at IES Benazaire.
She has always been passionate about sports, having practiced badminton and figure skating. However, when she arrived at Herrera and could not find these disciplines, she looked for other alternatives.
How did you get started in the world of karate? «Since I was 7 years old I have been practicing karate. “It was when I met my friends Ana Carretero and Elena Sanz, who already practiced this discipline, I was so excited that I decided to join the school.”
Eva has proven to be a formidable competitor. She has been the Extremadura champion in kumite for several years and often finds herself at the top of the podium in the kata modality at the regional level. Nationally, she has ranked in the top ten in Spain and will compete in the league’s grand final in Malaga this weekend.
What attracts you most about karate?«I love karate because it is a very complete sport. It is not only about physical strength, but also about concentration, discipline and respect. Plus, I love the feeling of self-improvement I feel every time I learn something new.”
What do you consider to be your greatest achievement to date?“Recently, I have achieved an important milestone in my career by winning the bronze medal in kumite -61kg at the Spanish Cadet, Junior and U21 Karate Championships.” Championship that was held in Albacete from November 17 to 19, 2023.

What are your aspirations for the future?«I have fulfilled my main objective: to get on the national podium after so many years of sacrifice, effort and work. My next goal is to obtain the 1st dan black belt next year. With the recent bronze medal, Eva is determined to continue working and growing athletically to continue climbing until she reaches the top of the national podium.
