Carlos Alcaraz and Tommy Paul showed entertaining tennis in Mexico City

Off-season time is exhibition time: Many top players sweeten the pre-Christmas period with pompously staged exhibition matches in which the competing professionals are lured with sometimes almost outrageously high entry fees. On Thursday, an event that fully lived up to its name was held at Plaza Mexico in Mexico City: TennisFest GNP 2023.

Not only did Carlos Alcaraz, Tommy Paul, Maria Sakkari and Caroline Wozniacki storm the court, but musical accompaniment was also provided: the Colombian Sebastian Yatra, who is highly successful in Latin America, provided the right beats and melodies, fireworks and… Light shows also spoiled the eyes of the numerous spectators.

Alcaraz will also be in Mexico next year

The opening game between the Greek Sakkari and the Danish comebacker Wozniacki went to the southern European in two sets 6:3, 6:4. In the main match that followed, Alcaraz won 7:6 and 6:3 in the former bullfighting arena. There were plenty of great shots in the game – a particularly impressive one was this passed ball from the 20-year-old Spaniard:

Good thing for the organizers: The reigning Wimbledon champion and currently second in the world rankings has already confirmed his attendance for next year.
