Mark Caljouw from Rijswijk has qualified with the Dutch men’s badminton team for the European Championship for national teams in Poland next year. The Netherlands eventually won the match 3-2 and became group winners, making qualification for the men’s team a fact. The women also qualified by winning 3-2 in the final against Hungary.
No Olympics yet
Caljouw is currently 61st in the world rankings, which is not enough for the Summer Olympics in Paris next year. To qualify, he must place in the top 16 of the Road to Paris rankings. Good performances at international tournaments can also help. In April 2024, Caljouw must give everything during the individual European Championships to represent the Netherlands again at the Olympic Games. He was eliminated in the round of 16 in Tokyo in 2021 and called it his “most painful defeat ever”.
