Double Trouble: Cleveland Cavaliers Suffer Major Injuries to Darius Garland and Evan Mobley

Bad luck has decided to hit the Cleveland Cavaliers. Less than an hour apart, journalists Shams Charania and Adrian Wojnarowski have reported the injuries of Darius Garland and Evan Mobley, who will miss a significant amount of time.

Garland will be out for “several weeks” after suffering a broken jaw. The injury occurred when he collided with Kristaps Porzingis’ shoulder during the third quarter of the loss suffered this Thursday at the hands of the Boston Celtics. Garland left the game and went to the locker room, although he returned and was able to play the fourth quarter.

Although Garland has averaged 20.7 points and 5.9 assists in his first 20 games, he has not been at his best. His 34.6% three-point percentage and 3.8 turnovers per night would set the worst marks of his career.

For his part, Mobley will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left knee, so an initial recovery schedule of between six and eight weeks has been determined. That is, her absence could last until after the All-Star Weekend.

This is a significant setback for the Cavaliers who have had a disappointing start to the season and far removed from the expectations generated during the summer. Widely projected as one of the four or five best teams in the East, they currently have a 13-12 record, which places them in ninth position in their conference.
