Discover the World of Badminton at SVH Hellendoorn: A Growing Sport in the Netherlands

Sun Dec 10, 12:26 General

HELLENDOORN – Badminton is a small sport in the Netherlands. It is always in the shadow of football and the larger indoor sports. Playing badminton recreationally during the holidays is popular, but becoming a member of a badminton club often turns out to be a big step. And yet the game is relatively easy to learn.

It is striking that the badminton department of SVH Hellendoorn has been holding its own for years. There was a big dip during the corona period, but new members are now joining us. The department has a loyal membership base. Henk ter Steege is the point of contact and Ans and Gerard Wolfkamp, among others, are driving forces.

On Tuesday mornings from 11:30 am, a recreational group meets in the Voordam sports hall. The level is slightly higher on Thursday evening. The members here are also a bit younger. They will also play in the Voordam sports hall from 8 p.m. The board believes it is important that, in addition to the sporting part, members also look out for each other. That happens a lot.

There will be a walk-in evening on Thursday evening, January 11 from 8 p.m. Rackets are available if interested parties do not have their own. Anyone who would like to get to know the sport and the club is welcome that evening. If you are unable to attend, you are also welcome to attend one of the Tuesday or Thursday training sessions in December.
