The newly created committee is intended to “develop targeted measures to curb incidents of violence and pyrotechnics in the stadiums,” said the DFB after the meeting of the association’s executive committee on Thursday.

The working group is made up of two people each from the DFB Presidium, the Prevention & Safety & Football Culture Commission, the Fans and Fan Cultures Commission, the DFB sports judiciary and the fan affairs department (DFB, DFL) as well as a representative from Bundesliga clubs. 2nd Bundesliga and 3rd League. If necessary, representatives of other interest groups should be brought in, the DFB said.

Fröhlich: “De-escalate and prevent repetitions”

“We view the recent violent clashes with great concern,” explained Martin Fröhlich in view of the recent incidents. “Since the Corona pandemic, we have also seen rapidly escalating conflicts in other areas of society. (…) The aim must be to de-escalate in the coming days and weeks and prevent recurrences. Everyone is called upon to deal with the situation responsibly and to make their contribution – this is the only way the fan culture, for which German professional football is respected and sometimes envied beyond its borders, can flourish,” continued the Chairman of the Fans and Fan Cultures Commission.

According to the DFB, the commission was created as a joint advisory and expert committee of the DFB and DFL on topics that have an impact on fans or aspects of fan culture.

Bergmann and Schneekloth as initiators

The new working group was created on the initiative of DFB Vice President Thomas Bergmann and Steffen Schneekloth, deputy spokesman for the DFL Presidium. The working group is led by the Prevention & Safety & Football Culture Commission of the DFB.

Recently there were clashes between fans and the police in several German stadiums. At the end of November, more than 200 people were injured in the Bundesliga match between Frankfurt and Stuttgart.
