Danny Noppert’s Shocking Elimination at Darts World Cup in London

Dec 21, 2023 at 10:10 PM Update: 2 days ago

Danny Noppert was surprisingly eliminated from the Darts World Cup in London on Thursday evening. The seventh-seeded Dutchman lost in the second round to Englishman Scott Williams, number 52 in the world.

The 32-year-old Noppert only showed flashes of his best game in the first set. For example, he immediately threw out 170 in the first leg, breaking Williams, who was one year older. The Dutchman was then broken himself and had to leave the set to Williams.

After that, Noppert was never able to get back into his game. He lost the second set 3-2 and the last set he lost 3-1. ‘The Freeze’ recorded an average of 94.13 per three arrows. Williams posted an average of 94.01.

For Noppert, who had a bye for the first round, his World Cup ended in another deception. De Fries played for the sixth time at Alexandra Palace, but he never got further than the third round.

There are now a total of six Dutch players in the tournament. Berry van Peer reached the second round on Thursday afternoon by beating Luke Woodhouse. Raymond van Barneveld, Richard Veenstra, Jermaine Wattimena, Michael van Gerwen and Dirk van Duijvenbode also participate in ‘Ally Pally’.
