Cross-country skiing in Northern Italy: 6 locations to discover

Here are 6 ideal locations for cross-country skiing surrounded by wonderful and uncontaminated nature. So, whether you are a beginner or an expert, discover in the photo gallery the destinations to go this winter to go cross-country skiing in Northern Italy:

1. From Val D’Ao: Brusson

Brusson boasts 30 km of slopes. The one in Trois Villages connects it to Extrepiéraz, passing through Arcésaz and Vollon. In the latter location there are the two cross-country rings of 5 and 7.5 km which, since 1982, have been used during World Cup competitions. Furthermore, the important Valle d’Aosta Council Cup is also held in Brusson. In the event of a lack of snow, the computerized artificial snow system serving the Foyer du Fond in the area will ensure that all sections of the route are accessible.

2. Piedmont: Val Formazza

There are two main cross-country trails in this Piedmontese destination. The first, that of Riale (12 km at 1740 m), keeps the skier at high altitude, between the sharp peaks of Corno Brunni and Basodino, the wooden houses of the small village of Rial, the waterfall with the highest drop in Europe and the slopes of an enchanted landscape.
The second, in the San Michele area, winds for 12 km along the Toce river, at a lower altitude.

On the Asiago Plateau, the Gallium Cross-Country Center (1500-2000 meters above sea level) is one of the best-known places to practice this discipline. It includes 150 km of slopes (7 for Nordic skiing, 3 for both the classic technique and skating), all always groomed and signposted. Furthermore, the snowmobile rescue service is active at all times along the routes. The rings pass through a magical landscape of coniferous forests and bright glades.
