Clubs show their teeth to the DFL

Football clubs are increasingly speaking out against the entry of an investor. They believe they can raise enough money on their own. In any case, the Bundesliga will soon have a different name.

Compared to the open dispute last May, things are quieter before another vote on the entry of an investor from the private equity industry into the business of the first and second Bundesliga. On December 11th, the 36 clubs will vote on a modified concept, but opposition is slowly forming.

After SC Freiburg, 1. FC Köln also announced to the FAZ that they would vote “no”, and the “Sportschau” and the “SZ” also reported. Cologne Vice President Eckhard Sauren praises “the fact that the new process is presented with significantly greater transparency” and welcomes “the fact that direct distributions to the clubs have now largely been refrained from”. However, once again it was not sufficiently examined “whether there are more sensible alternatives to a private equity investor”.
