Briedis spoke about the opponent and the time of his next fight

The International Boxing Federation (IBF) had announced that its first heavyweight champion, Jay Opatai, would defend his belt against designated challenger Mairis Briedis.

Opetaia used his opportunity to defend the belt against a chosen contender already in September, meeting with the British Jordan Thompson. The undefeated Australian boxer is now booked to fight at the Riyadh Grand Fight Show on December 23.

The IBF has insisted that Opetai must take his next fight against Briedi, otherwise he will lose the championship belt. An Australian boxer has opted to retain his spot at the Riyadh fight show, vacating the championship belt.

Foreign media reports that Opetaia has agreed on three fights and a fee of two million US dollars in Saudi Arabia.

Zaurland revealed that Briedis will fight Gilberto Ramirez for the vacant IBF belt: “Briedis will fight for the vacant belt. Most likely against Ramirez. If I’m not mistaken he [Ramiress] is next in rank. This fight will also be huge. Mairis really wanted a rematch against Opetaia.”

The promoter also denied rumors that Briedis was injured, adding that the Latvian boxer is actively training.

Briedis also stated on his platform X account that his next opponent will be Ramires and the fight could take place in February.

The 38-year-old Briedis has not entered the ring since the loss to the already mentioned Opetai last July.

Ramirez has lost just once in his 46 career fights, winning 45.
