The Bari Flying Squad arrested a 42-year-old homeless man with multiple criminal convictions, accused of 9 incidents of snatching against as many women. According to investigators, the thefts were carried out between August and October in Bari, Modugno, Valenzano, Capurso and BItonto.
The provision was issued by the investigating judge of the Court of Bari at the request of the local prosecutor’s office. The man, aboard a stolen scooter, would have approached cars driven by women pretending to want to help or simulating a non-existent road accident. Taking advantage of a moment of distraction from the victims, he then took away bags, necklaces and bracelets, quickly fleeing.
The investigators managed to trace the 42-year-old by collecting the victims’ reports, analyzing the video surveillance images of the areas where the shots occurred and identifying the motorbike used, a gray Sim Simphony without a top case. After his arrest, the 42-year-old was taken to prison.
