Antonio Pintus: The Most Winning Athletic Trainer in European Football History

Antonio Pintus is 61 years old. He was born in Turin but his sporting and working life started in Settimo Torinese. He obtained four degrees and won 28 titles with the football teams for which he was an athletic trainer. Historic collaborator of Deschamps, Conte and now Ancelotti, Pintus today is to all intents and purposes owned by Real Madrid.

According to what Onda Cero reports, Florentino Pérez would have hired him on a permanent basis. Regardless of the future of Ancelotti (whose contract expires next June), Pintus would remain at Real as an employee of the club. Considered a phenomenon in athletic training and now famous throughout the world for his results, a month ago he was also called by NASA, who had wanted to meet with him to apply his methods for the preparation of astronauts. Today Real Madrid locked him down. Florentino understood it: for an increasingly spatial future, he is needed.

Antonio Pintus, born in 1962, he is the most “winning” athletic trainer in the history of European football. 29 titles, many of these are continental. A record. His story begins right in Settimo Torinese, in 1986, as trainer of the Juniores and the first team of Settimo who was playing in the regional championships at the time. Then he gave a new impetus to Judo Akiyama in 1990, generating the spark that then, thirty years later, led Fabio Basile to win the Olympic gold in judo in Rio De Janeiro. The big leap came in 1991: joins the Juventus first team staff with Giovanni Trapattoni and remained there until 1998, when he then flew to London to follow Chelsea.

His CV tells of his commitments with Udinese, Monaco, Juventus again, West Ham, Marseille, Palermo, Sunderland, Real Madrid (with Zidane), Inter (Italian champion) and now he is back at the Blancos’ court with Carlo Ancelotti , another great coach who won everything.

The “Pintus Method”, as Modric called it at the end of the semi-final won in the last minutes against Guardiola’s Manchester City in 2022, it makes everyone feel good. With him the players have to work hard but it’s not just effort: in addition to his technical and muscular knowledge, he is also very skilled at finding the suggestion with which to make each individual athlete fly. At the end of the year, the preparation work puts everyone in a position to always be at their best. This produces harmony, intensity of play, ease of getting to the end of the match and hitting with energy when the opponent is already on the ground. The city of Settimo can be proud: Antonio Pintus is its flagship.
