Alison Van Uytvanck Faces Uncertain Recovery and Future in Tennis Career After Back Operation

“Last chance: I had another back operation and I need several weeks to recover. It’s been difficult for a year and a half. I continue to fight for what I love. We will try to come back,” wrote Alison Van Uytvanck, 29, who fell to 339th place in the world. It does not indicate a deadline for a recovery.

Her coach, Ann Devries, had already announced that she would not resume before mid-January while the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam event of the season, takes place from January 14 to 28.

Alison Van Uytvanck, affected by back pain, worries about 2024 and the rest of her career

Alison Van Uytvanck returned to competition at the beginning of October at the ITF tournament in Reims, which she won. The former quarter-finalist at Roland Garros in 2015 made her return after eight months of absence following a double hernia in her lower back. She had not played since her defeat against Croatian Petra Martic in the second round of the WTA 250 tournament in Linz on February 9.

Her best WTA ranking dates back to August 2018 with a 37th place.
