By unveiling the list of 27 players selected for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, Aliou Cissé addressed the curse that has weighed on the champion teams since 2010.
Since Egypt’s historic treble (2006, 2008 and 2010), no African team has managed to retain their title, challenging Zambia, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Cameroon and Algeria. The Lions of Teranga will have to break this curse to hope to win a second star on Ivorian soil.

“I am neither God nor a prophet. I’m a coach and I don’t have a magic wand to change things. The only thing we can do is try our best [pour conserver le titre]. Whenever there are important deadlines, we will always do our best, as you know,” warns Aliou Cissé.
