Alex Verdugo joins Yankees from Red Sox

The New York Yankees made an unusual change this Tuesday with the Boston Red Sox, who are their staunch rival in the MLB.

Outfielder Alex Verdugo joins the Bronx team, while right-handed pitchers Greg Weissert, Richard Fitts and Nicholas Judice go to Boston.

Verdugo, 27, comes to the New York team after averaging .264 last season.

Hitting 13 home runs, 54 RBIs in what was his fourth season with the Red Sox. A Gold Glove finalist, he had 12 outfield assists and nine runs saved.

In seven years as a professional player, Verdugo has a lifetime batting average of .281, with 57 home runs, 255 RBIs with the Dodgers and Red Sox.
