Basketball record champion Alba Berlin has stopped table leaders Niners Chemnitz from flying high in the BBL. The Berlin team led by world champion Johannes Thiemann won on New Year’s Eve in front of 9,887 spectators in their own hall with 101:90 (60:45).
This ended the series of surprise teams. Chemnitz had previously only lost on the first matchday in Ulm and then celebrated twelve wins in a row.
Alba with a strong opening phase
Alba initiated its eighth win in the eleventh game with an outstanding first quarter (34:19). The best thrower was Sterling Brown with 25 points, Thiemann contributed 17 points. Kevin Yebo scored 21 points for Chemnitz.
Alba is now in fourth place in the table, although with three games fewer than Chemnitz. Next up are the Berliners in the Euroleague. On January 2nd they will play in Kaunas and on January 5th they will host Bologna. Alba continues in the Bundesliga on January 7th in Bamberg.
