Alba Berlin and Ratiopharm Ulm Advance to Basketball Bundesliga Cup Semi-finals

Co-favorites Alba Berlin and champions Ratiopharm Ulm have qualified for the cup semi-finals of the Basketball Bundesliga. The Berliners won their quarter-final game at the Syntainics MBC from Weißenfels with 85:70 (45:36) and thus made their twelfth entry into the cup semi-finals in a row perfect.

Alba also managed to take revenge for the 75:108 home defeat against MBC three weeks ago in league play, the highest home defeat in the club’s history. Basketball world champion Johannes Thiemann led Berlin with 17 points.

In the later top game, Ulm prevailed against Bundesliga leaders Niners Chemnitz. At 87:78 (39:39), the Ulm team benefited from a strong second half and top scorer LJ Figueroa, who scored 19 points at strong odds. Chemnitz had previously won 17 games across all competitions. The Niners had already had to admit defeat against Ulm at the season opener.

Thanks to Zach Copeland, the Bamberg Baskets prevailed at Rasta Vechta with 88:87 (42:39). Copeland hit the winning three-pointer twelve seconds before the end of the game and was the game’s top scorer with 33 points. Vechta overcame a 21-point deficit in just under seven minutes in the fourth quarter, but still missed out on victory.

The Final Four in the Cup will take place on February 17th and 18th. In the remaining quarter-finals, the Telekom Baskets Bonn and the basketball players from FC Bayern Munich will face each other as defending cup champions on Sunday.
