A season already marked by incidents before the drama that occurred on the sidelines of Nantes-Nice

August 21 – In Ajaccio, the Bordeaux ultras defy the ban

Despite a prefectural decree prohibiting Girondins supporters from going to Ajaccio for the match on the 3rd day of Ligue 2, 64 Bordeaux ultras managed to enter the François-Coty stadium, and the match had to be interrupted for 55 minutes following a scuffle with local supporters.

Scenes of violence were observed in the stands, with chairs, sofas and ladders being thrown by ACA supporters. Several Bordeaux ultras are injured, including five hospitalized. For this violence, the LFP disciplinary committee imposed on the ACA a suspended one-point withdrawal and a match behind closed doors.

September 1 – A family attacked in Nantes

During the match between Nantes and OM at La Beaujoire (1-1), a family of Marseille supporters was attacked by Canaries fans present in the Loire stand. The father suffered two cardiac arrests – the first just before half-time, the second in the ambulance – and the incident highlights a probable failure of the security service. A few days later, FC Nantes will part ways with David Amaré, its security director who arrived at the start of the summer. The disciplinary committee will order two closing matches, one of which will be suspended, from the Loire de la Beaujoire stand.

October 8 – Diaw targeted by a firecracker, Montpellier-Clermont arrested

As MHSC headed towards success, leading 4-2 during added time,
a firecracker explodes at the feet of Clermont goalkeeper Mory Diaw who collapses. First suspended, the match was stopped definitively before being replayed on November 29, behind closed doors (1-1). Montpellier also received a penalty point in the standings (plus one suspended), in addition to the partial closure for two matches of the Étang de Thau stand, from where the object was thrown. The alleged perpetrator of the firecracker throwing and the person he designated as his supplier will be judged on May 2, 2024.

October 29 – OL bus attacked, Grosso injured

While the Lyon delegation was heading towards the Vélodrome, the bus transporting them was the victim of a very violent stone attack. Hit by a glass bottle, OL coach Fabio Grosso is seriously injured in the left eye.

The image of his bloodied face will go around the world, he will be entitled to twelve stitches but not a return to the Vélodrome, since the match will take place on Wednesday without Grosso, sacked last week. The LFP disciplinary committee, for its part, considered itself incompetent to impose sanctions, as the events took place outside the stadium.
