Home team Zlín started the match quite actively. But they were troubled by the finish, he did not manage to place the puck behind Adam Beran for a long time. The closest was Jan Süss, who headed for the post after Aleksi Salonen’s power play. Lang was also in a decent position, Pavel Sedláček from close range, but we couldn’t get through.
Jihlava, who started with two trumps from juniors Burkov and Kuprijanov, wanted to threaten mainly from breaks, but Daniel Huf was attentive, and moreover, he did not have to deal with any outright crisis situation yet.
The second period with Zlín was more successful than the first, and we finally got some goals! In the first minutes, Salmio could have punished Dukla’s not-so-observant defense for outnumbering, Werbik then fought his way out of the box in front of the goal, but only hit the concrete of Adam Beran. A few moments later, the visiting goalkeeper was already humiliated, Zdeněk Čáp drove down the right side, aimed and hit the post accurately.
The Rams created overwhelming pressure in the power play, the closest was Martin Novák, who beat the goalkeeper, but the puck flew past three posts. Then Jan Süss stepped up, increasing Zlín’s lead to 2:0 with a cannonball from the circle. Jihlava did not get any shooting opportunities for practically the entire 20 minutes, and the Rams completely controlled the game.
The third period still offered an interesting hockey spectacle. Dukla benefited from a good entry and an active approach, which caused great problems for the Rams. Štefančík was still caught by Huf with luck, but Tomáš Havránek’s nice power combination and finish was not stopped – 2:1.
The game was not only balanced, Jihlava gradually took advantage of the euphoria and dictated the pace of the game. In the 53rd minute, the home team played a power play, in short, they had to calm down. And so it came, Martin Lang was in the right place at the right time and added an important safety goal.
Dukla took a risk and called off goalkeeper Beran four minutes before the end. But the game in six didn’t pay off, Jesse Paukku grabbed the puck and sent it across the rink and into the net. In the end, the catches of both goalkeepers still shone, Beran tapped out Werbik, Daniel Huf five seconds before the end of Ozols. Although Dukla made a cosmetic correction to 4:2 with Richard Cachnín’s shot, it could no longer threaten the Rams. In the end, Köhler stirred up the emotions a bit more, challenging one of the opponents to a duel, but even this did not change anything.
