Viktor Axelsen Faces ‘Tall Man Problems’ at Japan Masters after Foot Injury

PETALING JAYA: World No. 1 shuttler Viktor Axelsen may have to bend down to look at himself in the mirror at his hotel room in Kumamoto.

But that’s a small issue as the Dane has returned from a foot injury with a hope to stand tall in the Japan Masters starting tomorrow.

Yesterday, Axelsen shared a light moment on his social media platform with hashtag #TallManProblemInAsia as the 1.94m tall Dane had to lower himself to see his face on the bathroom mirror.

In fact, he could not even stand straight in the bathroom as his head was touching the ceiling.

Axelsen laughed it out but he is certainly serious on getting back to top of the podium again. He last won a title at the China Open in September.

Last month, he withdrew with foot injury during the first round against Angus Ng Ka Long of Hong Kong in the French Open and also conceded a walkover to Lee Zii Jia in the second round of the Denmark Open in Odense.

In the Japan Masters, Axelsen will face Indonesia’s Chico Aura in the opening round and if he wins, he will play the winners of the match between Ng Tze Yong and Wang Tzu-wei.

He has other top players in his half which includes third seed Kodai Naraoka, fifth seed and reigning world champion Kunlavut Vitidsarn of Thailand and sixth seed Jonatan Christie of Indonesia. The unseeded players that can turn spoilers in his group are K. Srikanth and Lakshya Sen of India; Malaysia’s Lee Zii Jia, and Denmark’s Anders Antonsen.

Zii Jia has a tricky first round match against Antonsen.
