The first round of the regular competition in the Jupiler Pro League is over and so it is time to take stock. For a number of teams this is mainly positive. But several first division players cannot possibly be satisfied with the competition so far.
At the bottom of the rankings, for example, the penultimate place of KVC Westerlo is particularly striking. After their summer transfer offensive, the Gamecocks were tipped before the season as one of the possible revelations, but now seem to be condemned to a tough relegation battle. Much more was also expected from OH Leuven and Sporting Charleroi.
Concerns in Genk and Antwerp
But several top teams have also remained below average so far. National champion Antwerp FC, for example, is far too inconsistent. A 24 out of 42 is simply not enough for the defending champion, especially since the Champions League campaign has been anything but a success so far.
The same can be said about KRC Genk. After taking second place last season, Racing seemed ready to take another step forward. Especially because most of the strong holders remain on board. But losing points 9 times in 15 match days is simply too much.
