Unpublished Anecdote from the New Rafael Nadal Book: Carlos Alcaraz’s Response at Roland‐Garros

A new book about Rafael Nadal called “Gracias” comes out this week in Spain. And while the Majorcan prepares his return, our colleagues from Clay Tennis already report an unpublished anecdote from the author, Sebastian Fest, concerning Carlos Alcaraz at Roland‐Garros.

“A French journalist asked Alcaraz, in Spanish, if he thought the fans of Nadal, orphaned in 2023 in Paris, now supported him. And Alcaraz, a fearless young man, replied that yes, he was convinced that these fans were now on his side.explains the Spanish-speaking media.

Worried about possibly having upset his illustrious and legendary compatriot who always planned to return one day to Roland‐Garros, the young Spaniard would have immediately regretted his response.

“He didn’t want to take Nadal’s fans with him in any way. But he was wrong in his answer, he realized it straight away”someone close to Alcaraz reportedly said.

The latter undoubtedly knew that he had put an extra weight on his shoulders. A few days later, on the Phillipe‐Chatrier in the semi‐finals against Novak Djokovic, Carlitos, too nervous and suffering from cramps, cracked under the pressure.
