Club Brugge Scouting for Winter Reinforcements in the Jupiler Pro League

The mediocre performances in the Jupiler Pro League are not without consequences for Club Brugge. Blauw-Zwart is currently scouring the market for winter reinforcement. In addition to a new goal getter, defensive reinforcement is also on the wish list.

After finishing only fourth in the league last season, Blauw-Zwart already experienced an animated transfer period during the summer. The people of Bruges said goodbye to some stalwarts such as Noa Lang, Clinton Mata and Mats Rits. In addition, the club coffers were further fueled with the sale of Abakar Sylla and Jack Hendry, among others.

On the other hand, Club itself also acquired several acquisitions. But for the time being this does not appear to be enough to realize the ambitions. The European and cup campaign has been impressive so far, but with a provisional seventh place, Club is simply underperforming in its own country.

Defensive leader wanted

Moreover, the summer acquisitions did not provide the desired return at all. And so the West Flemish plan to make adjustments in January. Especially in defense. Despite the departure of Mata and Sylla, among others, Club failed to strengthen its defense during the summer mercato. They want to correct this in January.

They are looking for someone who can take the lead in the heart of the defense and take youngsters like Jorne Spileers and Joel Ordoñez in tow. On ‘Wait&See’, transfer expert Sacha Tavolieri recently mentioned Pascal Struijk’s name. The Dutchman with Belgian roots was also in the picture last summer.

Small chance of a deal

However, when coach Daniel Farke was appointed at Leeds United, he reportedly opposed Struijk’s departure. And the defender has now even become captain of the current number 3 in the Championship. The chance that the Peacocks will cooperate in a deal therefore seems small.

Nevertheless, according to FootballFancast an opening after all. If Leeds decide it wants to strengthen its squad in other positions, the club would not rule out a sale of Struijk. But then there must first be a concrete offer from Bruges. Struijk’s transfer price is estimated at at least 15 million euros.
